The sound of roaring motorcycle engines on the Strand, mostly Harley V-Twins, is the sound of happiness.  After two rainy days the weather cleared up and all the bikers in Galveston (near Texas) were treated to a perfect day.  Lots of bikers and pretty girls here.   Thank goodness for pretty bartenders.

This is the first batch of photos, expect more over the next few days.  The girl in the pink top below is the daughter of the gal in the large photo above.

Girls love to dress up in costume for the Renaissance Festival.  Here is a selection of ladies or wenches in Renaissance period clothing, belly dance costumes, pirate, gypsy barbarian and fantasy outfits.  All were shot on October 8, 2016, opening day in Todd Mission, Texas.  The weather was ideal.

This is the fourth set of photos from my visit to the 2015 Texas Renaissance Festival on Saturday, October, 17.    I expect to be publishing one more set tomorrow.  Today was a special day.  My home has been undergoing repairs from the May flood.  The painters left giving me back several rooms.  The kitchen is not completed, but at least I have some space.

The Wenches, Women and Girls of the 2015 Texas Renaissance Festival

DSC_8351

This is the first batch of photos from my visit to the 2015 Texas Renaissance Festival on Saturday, October, 17.  I must have photographed about 100 people, so it will take me a while to go through the lot of them.  It’s people in costumes that make this fair special.  Without them, I might as well be drinking beer in the city.

Austin in August

Some were shot at Austin’s famous 6th Street,  others at Austin’s well known graffiti park.  The girl with a dog was walking down the street from where I stay when in Austin.

Lake Travis feeds the Colorado River.  You may notice the river is low with the bottom is visible.  Lake Travis is at 32% capacity after several years of a Central Texas drought.  It rained later that day, but the storm barely did anything for the reservoir.  This location is downstream near Bastrop, Texas at the Lost Pines Hyatt.

8 Black and White Street Photos in This Gallery

Ron’s coverage of SXSW continues.  Austin’s 6th Street is one of my all time favorite places for street photography.  It has atmosphere, bars and loud music spilling out into the street.  Frequently, it is closed to auto traffic.  One feels the intensity of Bourbon Street without the seedy, unfriendly underpinnings.

Stay tuned as I have 3 more galleries of photos from SXSW.  They are in color and have a somewhat different emphasis.

Let Your Inner Child Run Wild

Wheels Keep Turning

Wheels Keep Turning

There are 8 Photos in This Gallery and a longer message than usual.

Instead of posting a silly graphic comparing the traffic on my blog to the Louvre, I will try to give a meaningful year end message.   My blog is four years old this month.  During the first year I had very little contact with other WordPress.Com bloggers.  The beginning of 2013 saw a major shift in viewers of this blog from a certain large photo forum that I no longer frequent, to other WordPress.Com bloggers and other different sources.  I went from about 20 followers to several thousand in a very short period of time, although the growth has since leveled off.  During 2014 I regret several very active bloggers who followed my blog stopped blogging.  In some cases I know why, perhaps the others became bored or worn out.  About one third of the blogs listed as following mine are inactive, in my estimation.  During this time I have become friendly with several other bloggers and have contact with them via Facebook or email.

My view is the best use for a blog is to publish original content.  If you utilize the content of others in your blog, please be careful to stay within the boundaries of fair use, public domain  or creative commons material.  Everything here is copyrighted except for one image (out of over 2,700) that is creative commons.  I had a few instances of misappropriation this year which is annoying because I give permission for use without payment of fees frequently.

My photography has changed a lot over the last four years.  In a shift from completely candid street photography there is a lot more interaction with the subjects now.  There has been an expansion of genres into abstract and architectural subjects.  Travel photography continues to look less like typical travel photography and more like it was done by some living in the area.

To all of you who have visited my blog or even liked my posts from the reader, thank you.  Please return in 2015.  I already have three big trips planned for the first quarter.  Happy new year to all, and let your inner child run wild.

Along with the Austin Grand Prix there was a street fair downtown on 4th Street.  That being only two blocks from Austin’s famous 6th street, I went up there and took a few more photos.  Red Bull and Monster were there giving out their product.
