I was on the Big Island of Hawaii in February. A month after I left the earth tremors started and subsequently the volcano erupted. Ironically, there was so little going on with the volcano during my visit that I did not bother to go see it.

Houston’s Gay Pride Festival was held for the second year downtown in front of City Hall in Houston. This time the police made no attempt to keep participants out of the reflecting pool. There were far more women there than men although I suspect the numbers reversed in the evening for the parade. Temperatures were kept reasonable by rain and clouds making it only almost as hot as hell rather than hotter. The girls were wilder this year than in the past with several sporting pasties.

Costumes have become a big part of the art car parade so here are some people in costume.
This was the last stop on the Southeast Asia trip. The town is full of tourists because it is near Angkor Wat.
After leaving Viet Nam I spent a few days in the Luang Prabang area. Although it was fun, I would only recommend this stop if you have a lot of time.
There is a lake at the center of old town in Hanoi.

This famous scenic bay is a 3 hour car ride from Hanoi. It’s not far, but the roads are slow.
Hoi An is a 45 minute taxi ride from Da Nang. That will cost you only $12. At its center is an old city heavily influenced by the Chinese. It is a major tourist destination.
