Houston Gay Pride, 2017

Houston’s Gay Pride Festival was held for the second year downtown in front of City Hall in Houston.  This time the police made no attempt to keep participants out of the reflecting pool.   There were far more women there than men although I suspect the numbers reversed in the evening for the parade.  Temperatures were kept reasonable by rain and clouds making it only almost as hot as hell rather than hotter.  The girls were wilder this year than in the past with several sporting pasties.

Sorry that it has taken me 6 weeks to get these published, but I haven’t been home much during this time.  Don’t make any assumptions about anyone’s sexual orientation.  I chat with the people I photograph and some of it is surprising.  The gal in the rainbow stripped bikini is a former suicide girl.  In the featured image is a computational computing wiz.

Houston Japan Festival 2016

These photos are from the annual Houston Japan Festival held in Hermann park.  As usual there are lots of people in traditional Japanese clothing and Cosplayers.  My favorite is the French Maid.  She works in sales.  The gal in blue is a designer for a large company.

More photos from the 2016 Houston Art Car Parade, the largest in the world. It was held downtown this year due to construction on Allen Parkway, its usual location.  I have to thank all these people for making Houston one of the most interesting places in the US to live.  Especially, I want to thank the many people who allow me to photograph them year after year.

Photos from Houston’s Gay Pride day held the day after SCOTUS ruled gays may marry and their marriages must be recognized by all states.  This year it was held downtown with a festival outside city hall and the parade at night downtown.  These photographs  were taken at the festival.  Swimming in the reflecting pool in front of city hall is prohibited.  At first  police chased folks out of the pool, but eventually gave up.  Remember, it is very hot and humid here in the summer.

Houston Ferrari Festival 2015

This is Houston’s annual gathering for Ferrari owners. There was a nice selection of Lamborghini cars and other exotics there. Weather was sunny and mild. Most would say it was perfect, but a little haze helps when taking photos of people.

The Cedar Creek Cafe is on 20th in the Houston Heights.  The place is designed to look like it is in Austin and in a Rural rather than an urban location.  A small drainage creek runs by it.

All morning and right up through the end of the parade rain was hanging in the air.  A few drops fell, but the Art Car Parade was spared.  The Cadillac commercial vehicle is often parked on 19th street in the Houston Heights.  Volunteers use roller skates to get around because the car staging is spread out for over a mile.

This gallery of photos from the weekend’s Anime Matsuri event represent two extremes of cosplay.  One is the Lolita.  Rather than being a specific character from fiction, Lolita is a style of woman in a mix of Victorian and Asian style clothing characterized by elaborate print fabrics.  The other extreme is men cross dressing as female anime characters.  This gallery has been significantly revised since its original publication.

This weekend Houston was home to Anime Matsuri, a cosplay convention.  As you can see, most of the participants were women.  Not these, but many were not old enough to drive.  This group of costumes were in the heroic female mercenary category.  I will have Lolitas  tomorrow.

If anyone viewing this knows the names of the characters, please leave a comment so I may update the captions.

Sunday Streets HTX

Sunday Streets HTX is a program in Houston, Texas where streets in densely parts of the city are closed to automobile traffic on Sunday afternoon while bikers and pedestrians are invited to roam.  This past Sunday Westheimer was reserved for bikes and pedestrians.  It is in the center of the inked, hipster, gay and alternative community.  Bars and restaurants were packed, and a number of pop-up food stands were in business.  I treated myself to a tasty breakfast taco.
